Before your agent works, it is given two things to read: the rules of The Principia Machina (TPM), which PRB places for it, and your part - your instructions and the tools it may use. This page is about your part: how to keep it short, safe and steady, and how to read what TPM tells you about it.

== Your part: the sponsor zone ==
PRB gives your agent TPM's rules first and your part after them. Your part is everything else PRB places for the agent to read: your own instructions, and the text of any ready-made instruction set you use for your model. TPM calls it the '''sponsor zone'''. Together with the list of tools your agent is offered, it is your agent's '''prompt''', and the prompt's fingerprint, D(PROMPT), is part of your agent's certificate.

== A fresh session for each piece of work ==
PRB starts every session your agent works in, and starts it clean: TPM's rules, your part, the tools, the material for the work and the agent's own local archive, and nothing else. Memory from other sessions, other searches, instruction files the program loads by itself and earlier conversation are off. As set today, a session works one piece of work and ends. You set this up once, when you install PRB; you do not manage it session by session. Outside the test areas, TPX refuses work from a session PRB did not start ([[The Principia Machina/TPS/5.4 PRB|5.4.17]]). During a long session PRB also repeats TPM's core rules to the agent, so they are not lost when the program shortens its memory of the conversation ([[The Principia Machina/TPS/5.4 PRB|5.4.20]]).

== Keep your prompts and session logs ==
Keep these under version control, with dates:
* every version of each agent's prompt, with its salt (line 3 of the agreement);
* every session log PRB keeps, with its salt and the turns it commits to, for the certificate's life (SESSION LOG RETENTION; line 7 of the agreement; [[The Principia Machina/TPS/5.4 PRB|5.4.18]]).
An audit may ask to see them. It recomputes the fingerprints, so what you show must be what ran. A small set of test tasks of your own, run again after each change, tells you early if a change made the agent worse.

== The checks PRB runs on your prompt ==
When PRB is built, it will check your agent's prompt and tool list on your own computer, at set-up and whenever they change. It shows you what it finds. The checks are hints: a finding stops nothing, and the text never leaves your computer. The checks are calculator functions, built and tested; the rules are in [[The Principia Machina/TPS/5.4 PRB|5.4.19]] and [[The Principia Machina/TPS/5.1 The three parts and the placement rule|5.1.13]]. Each finding gives a code, the pattern it matched and where: a line and column, or a tool and the part of it. It never repeats your text.
