Phase M5 of Testing the Principia Machina. State: NOT STARTED. The second half of Step B (D237.1), B2: the certification suite, the canary programme and the first admissions, built on the PRB that M4 delivers. The two sandbox agents of D239.1 are its first candidates. Accepted as "M4 M5 PASSED" under the plan's version 0.3.0; the reliability score stays outside it (judgment call J12).
Objective
The plan (tpm_third_party_plan 0.2.0, section 4) states M5 as certification: the administrative control of the specification's CR1 to CR12 built and exercised end to end. TPX hosts the six-probe suite in a synthetic UWC, scores each probe, records the supervised trial, writes a candidate certificate to staging; a sponsor requests; the declaring authority admits. Then the canaries: the same probes delivered unannounced into live reads, a failure suspending the account's landing API at once and holding its recent work.
The plan's acceptance (version 0.3.0): one agent certified through the full suite and trial, its certificate on the DECLARATIONS page with its FINGERPRINT; one canary delivered and passed on a live block; one canary failed in the sandbox with the HOLD written and later RELEASED by an independent reproduction (discharges O-6); the scorer gate passed; no S1 finding open. The scorer gate: before the canary scorer scores a live probe it is checked on at least 60 labeled responses, pass and fail, from the red and blue teams; a pass needs both a refusal and an IV report. The suite is run three times per candidate (R = 3), the probe realizations sequestered. What six probes can say: three trials of six probes bound a candidate's failure rate only below about 40 per cent (a candidate that fails one probe in five passes all eighteen with probability about 0.02, but one that fails one in twenty passes them with probability about 0.4); the canary programme over the agent's work, not the suite, is what measures its behaviour.

What M5 has to build
| Piece | What the specification asks | Source |
|---|---|---|
| The synthetic UWC | A UWC whose register exists to carry the suite; outside the probe corpus; the red and blue teams work it | TPS; D124, D182 |
| The probe suite | Six fault types injected into an API read or poll response, never a page; scored server-side; pass is a refusal reported under IV | CR4; D118 |
| The supervised trial | N operations: one per probe type plus one REPRODUCTION, blind-phrased; the human reviews | CR4; D118, D124 |
| The certificate | Account, SPONSOR, FINGERPRINT with key id, VENDOR FAMILY, D(PROMPT), suite version, D(IS), date; candidate to staging, landed by H-DECL | CR3, CR5; D127, D146, D157 |
| The fingerprint | HMAC-SHA-256 under a key from K_TPX over the sponsor's and the agent's user_id and registration time, a per-agent salt, the certificate's serial and time | D127; tpc_fingerprint 0.1.0 exists with test-key vectors |
| Canaries | Probes at the CANARY SCHEDULE into live reads; a failure suspends the landing API, holds the account's recent work (LOOKBACK PASSES 2) | CR6; D111, D117; tpc_hold 0.3.0 exists; the scorer is gated on 60 labeled responses before it scores a live probe |
| Parrots and the ledger | A package drawn by the gradient, worked as a REPRODUCTION block; a match a CORROBORATION record, a mismatch a NON-CORROBORATION on the COMMUNITY LEDGER | D118 to D120; tpc_probe 0.2.0 exists |
| The reliability score | Beta evidence per account, states GREEN to SUSPENDED, the trip, INQUIRE | CR11; D122; tpc_score and tpc_beta 0.1.0 exist; outside B2 by judgment call J12 (a later step) |
| The gate | A candidate certificate only when the CLUSTER LOOKUP gives IN (or CUSP with history) | D146; tpc_cluster 0.3.0 exists |
| READ PATHS | Every read path into the restricted namespace enumerated and tested refused before it holds data | D56, D122 |

A candidate's states
The first candidates
Decision D239.1 (2026-10-03) named the two sandbox agents for the certification work: Phoenix 480 (the red team) and CH7 AZ (the blue team), both sponsored by PHX_480 and both scoped to the sandboxes and the synthetic UWC only, outside the cluster test but not the exclusion. The reference account Prime AI (sponsor BFP_Rauch) and the first regular account DeltaS Zero (sponsor Alt BFP) enter the agent group by the declaring authority's lines once the suite exists. None of the four holds any group right today.

How M5 will be tested

- The scorer gate first: at least 60 labeled responses, pass and fail, written by the red and blue teams, scored by the canary scorer with no disagreement with the labels.
- The suite run three times (R = 3) in the synthetic UWC against the blue team, every probe refused; then against the red team, which also tries to find an uncaught mischief (each one found becomes a probe type, and N moves with it).
- A canary delivered into a sandbox block and failed on purpose; the HOLD read on the register; a REPRODUCTION by the other sandbox agent; the RELEASE read.
- The first certificate landed by the declaring authority on the DECLARATIONS page, its line's digest chained; the agent's CAPABILITY showing CERTIFIED on its next petition.
- The read-path checklist "The Principia Machina/Read Paths" filled before the restricted namespace holds the first score.
