On Physical Lines of Force → Rendering test

A page for checking that this MediaWiki installation renders the wiki correctly. If everything below looks right, the import is complete. Delete this page once you are satisfied — it is the only page nothing links to.

1. Inline mathematics

Written as <math> ... </math>. The magnetic force has components α,β,γ, the current components are p,q,r, and the permeability is μ. A fraction inline looks like dγdy.

2. Displayed mathematics

Written as <math display="block"> ... </math>.

∇×𝐄=−∂𝐁∂t

3. Numbered equations

texvc rejects \tag, so equation numbers are set inside the maths with \qquad\qquad\mathrm{(54)}. Every numbered equation in this wiki uses that form.

d(μα)dt=dQdz−dRdy(54)

4. Multi-line alignment

∇⋅𝐃=ρ∇⋅𝐁=0∇×𝐄=−∂𝐁∂t∇×𝐇=𝐉+∂𝐃∂t

5. Underbraces

Used on Prop. III to label the five terms.

X=μγq−μβr⏟the force on currents−dp0dx⏟simple pressure

6. Mathematics in a table

Maxwell modern
μα,μβ,μγ 𝐁=μ𝐇
p,q,r 𝐉
F,G,H 𝐀

7. Mathematics in a list

  • the divergence: dαdx+dβdy+dγdz
  • the curl, one component: dγdy−dβdz
  • absolute values: |𝐄|=c|𝐁|

8. A figure

Vortex cells and the particles between them

9. Ordinary formatting

This sentence has bold, italic, underline and monospace in it, followed by inline maths μ=1, then more bold.

A block quotation, which this wiki uses for every verbatim passage from Maxwell.

Troubleshooting

Maths shows as raw markup. The Math extension is not installed or not enabled. Install Extension:Math, add wfLoadExtension( 'Math' ); to LocalSettings.php, then run php maintenance/update.php. All 935 equations in this wiki were validated against texvcjs — MediaWiki's own TeX checker — so none should be rejected.

Figures do not display. The 19 SVGs must be uploaded separately: an XML import carries page text only. Use Special:Upload, or run php maintenance/importImages.php /path/to/images. SVG uploads also need $wgFileExtensions[] = 'svg'; and, for rasterised thumbnails, $wgSVGConverter = 'rsvg';.

Links are red. Every internal link points at a page title under On Physical Lines of Force/. If the import was partial, re-run it. Titles are case-sensitive after the first letter.

Sub-page breadcrumbs are missing. Optional: add $wgNamespacesWithSubpages[NS_MAIN] = true; to LocalSettings.php for automatic parent links.
